WELCOME TO THE CENTRE FOR GAS, REFINING AND PETROCHEMICALS, UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA

First and foremost, on behalf of the Management of the Centre for Gas, Refining and Petrochemicals (CGRP) I am very pleased to welcome everyone to the website of our Unique Centre of Excellence. As you well know, CGRP is the first of its kind in the whole of Sub-Sahara Africa, an academic unit and research hub for the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry, with a unique commitment to excellence and service.

If we look back over the history of human civilization, the role of science and technology has been a pivot to the development of social productive forces, and survival of mankind. Especially upon today’s rapid economic and social development, the threats we face from global energy crises among others have necessitated the development of the downstream sector including gas processing, petroleum refining, and particularly important petrochemical and fertilizer industries.

I thank all the scholars at home and abroad for their eager responses and full support, and all those who have provided encouragement and contributions toward the emergence of this Unique Centre of Excellence. Special commendations go to the Pioneer Directors of the Institute of Petroleum Studies, Prof. Joseph Atubokiki Ajienka, as well as CGRP, Prof. Godwin Igwe for their visionary ideas that are rapidly turning into a reality. The Management of the Unique UNIPORT, as well as all the entire CGRP Staff are ever ready to serve you and make your dream of being transformed into an industry-ready CGRP graduate a very fulfilling one. I encourage you to visit our website regularly for updates on our diverse programmes and activities.

CGRP is indeed a place of high standards and you have made the right choice to be associated with us. We count on your enthusiasm, loyalty and dedication to make this Centre a magnificent endeavor.

Once again, WELCOME!!!

CGRP Programmes

·MSc Programme in Refining and Petrochemical Technology

The aim of this Professional Refining and Petrochemicals programme is to provide graduates with broad based training required for sound refining and processing of crude oil. Crude oil and gas are of little use in their raw state. Their value lies in what is created from them: fuels, lubricating oils, waxes, asphalt and petrochemicals. A refinery is an organized and co-ordinated arrangement of manufacturing processes designed to produce physical and chemical changes in crude oil and natural gas. The programme will produce competent and industry ready Refining and Petrochemical processing graduates that will be fully prepared to work in the oil and gas industry at local and international levels.
